*Call to Worship (Read Responsively)

Almighty God, you know that sometimes it’s difficult for us to worship. Our lives are so cluttered with appointments, concerns, worries, possessions, work, and play that it seems that we have neither the time nor the energy to praise. Help us, we pray, to clear our minds and to cleanse our souls so we can worship you with sincerity, clarity, and purpose.

You May Be Seated

Prayer of Confession (Together in unison)

We admit, Lord, that we are quick to serve ourselves and slow to serve others. We are eager to receive but reluctant to give. We are quick to grasp, but slow to sacrifice. We are slow to admit our own faults and quick to point out the faults of others. Forgive us, we pray, for confusing our priorities, and help us to place our emphases where they belong.

A time of silent individual confessional prayer

Words of Assurance

Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.

Psalm 31:1-16 (Read responsively)

Page #764 UM Hymnal

1 In you, O LORD, I seek refuge;
let me ever be put to shame;
in your righteousness deliver me!
2 Incline your ear to me,
rescue me speedily!
Be a rock of refuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me!

3 You are indeed my rock and my fortress;
for your name’s sake lead me and guide me;
4 take me out of the net that is hidden for me,
for you are my refuge.

5 Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.
6 I hate those who pay regard to vain idols;
but I trust in the LORD.

7 I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love,
because you have seen my affliction,
and have taken heed of my adversities.
8 You have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy;
you have set my feet in a broad place.

9 Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress;
my eye is wasted from grief,
my soul and body also.
10 For my life is spent with sorrow,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my misery,
and my bones waste away.

11 I am the scorn of all my adversaries,
a horror to my neighbors,
an object of dread to my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street flee from me.
12 I have passed out of mind like one who is dead;
I have become like a broken vessel.

13 For I hear the whispering of many–
terror all around!–
as they scheme together against me,
as they plot to take my life.
14 But I trust in you, O LORD;
I say, “You are my God.”

15 My times are in your hand;
deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.
16 Let your face shine upon your servant;
save me in your steadfast love!

Pastor’s Greeting/Youth Message

Testimony Time – Joys, Prayers and Concerns

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who
trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the
glory, forever. Amen.

*Hymn

Hymn #344 “Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore”

Verse 1
Lord, you have come to the lakeshore
looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones;
you only asked me to follow humbly.

Chorus
O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me,
and while smiling have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas..

Verse 2
You know so well my possessions,
my boat carries no gold and no weapons;
you will find there my nets and labor.

Chorus
O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me,
and while smiling have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas..

Verse 3
You need my hands, full of caring
through my labors to give others rest,
and constant love that keeps on loving.

Chorus
O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me,
and while smiling have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas..

Verse 4
You, who have fished other oceans,
ever longed for by souls who are waiting,
my loving friend, as thus you call me.

Chorus
O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me,
and while smiling have spoken my name;
now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me;
by your side I will seek other seas..
